Does it really matter at this point, Togashi sort of said that if the series ever does conclude it's likely (spoiler) just gonna be Gon getting a sort of middle of the road shonen ending. It doesn't help that we know Gon would almost certainly live through whatever remaining arcs he'd be involved in which is something that would remove steaks
