>“That magic blew a hole straight through that fortification.” You note. “If we go through it, we can avoid the next barricade. Let’s go!”
Uriyan and Saoirse nod in agreement. The three of you rush into the ruins of the fortification that had been destroyed by that tornado. The prisoners who’d managed to escape both that magic and Saoirse are content enough to let you pass on through. Stepping into the debris, you see a multitude of corpses. Those that weren’t blown away by the tornado, but that were unlucky enough to have been smashed against the walls and foundations of the tower. Among them, one man happens to be alive, though slightly wounded. His robes denote him as a mage, and he stands directly in your path.
“Shit…you’re here already.” He says with a grimace. “We’re not even halfway through this yet…”
>“If you wish to live, step aside.”
The man gives you a bloody grin. “As if. I finally have a chance to earn my freedom. And all I have to do is stop some foolish foreigners that think they’re here on vacation.”
>“Fine, have it your way.” You ready your axe to slay the man, when he raises his hand out, and you hear the familiar hum of magic.
The ground before you glows white, a circle growing and spreading across it. You’ve seen this before. Summoning magic. The same kind that Cassius employs. You expect the man to be summoning a phantom soldier, much like how your friend does. Only instead, something much larger and more fearsome begins to emerge from within the circle. The creature is a giant, covered in ebon black armor. In its hands are a massive tower shield, as well as a wicked flamberge style sword. Unlike Cassius’ phantoms, this summon’s flesh rots off its very body, and its eyes glow a wicked shade of red.
“Hahahaha!” The mage half laughs, half coughs. “The College feared the beings I could call forth, so they locked me away! But I’ll show them what fools they were to do so. As soon as my creature finis-”
The phantom slams its sword down upon his summoner, and the mage vanishes in a violent explosion of blood. With his master dead, you hoped that the phantom would also soon vanish. However, when it turns upon you and lets out a mighty roar, you realize that you would not be so lucky.
