>Ive never read NLH how is it?
the book is second to none when it comes to telling a story that's a total downward spiral from beginning to end. The characters aren't explored a lot, except for the protagonist, but they're really well written for the scenes that they participate in
it's also got the best descriptions and metaphors I've ever seen for feelings of self loathing, depression, apathy, alienation, being an outcast, etc.
the book isn't very long, and it also has great pacing, which has partly to do with the fact that it isn't doom and gloom 100% of the time. But without spoiling anything, what it does is leverage these calm, peaceful, maybe even hopeful moments, and tears them away from the protagonist in ways that end up fueling his downward spiral even further
it's my favorite book of all time in part because I'm a retard that's been distancing away from society for the last 10 years. I can easily see the average citizen being disgusted by this book, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt
