Eh, not that many. You can find a few here and there or some aristocrat's daughter who became a communist, but I'd say the attraction to communism (at least in Western countries) was more for middling people (like college professors, intellectuals, etc.) who felt cramped by the social system and saw in communism a way to set themselves up as the guys in charge. Orwell wrote about this. Like in Britain you were just some obscure professor, but in a communist system you can imagine yourself as Stalin and have the power over every single person and can do all this crazy social engineering to build a new world.

Oil is still $$$ though but I think it's partly ideological with Marco Rubio who don't like Latin American commies. There are also MAGA guys who are skeptical of military adventures BUT they make an exception in the Western Hemisphere. This goes back to the Monroe Doctrine. If you ever watch Steve Bannon, he's one of these guys. Alex Jones even talks like this now.
