Some years ago I watched most if not all of the Kimba cartoon from the 60s. Ninety percent of it was an episodic saturday morning cartoon without a whole lot of similarity to The Lion King besides them both starring lion characters.

But the ghost dad scene in this one episode really stood out to me as feeling very similar to the ghost dad scene from The Lion King.

If you sit and watch the cartoon in chronological order and then get bored and give up after five episodes, or if you just watch random episodes, it’s not gonna seem all that much like the Lion King. But there are a couple of small gems scattered throughout the series that I am sure influenced some of the Lion King animators.
