Doug Winger and Eric Schwartz were making content in the 80s. The Genus comic book debuted in the 90s. Furry art on the internet was usually second only to actual Japanese Mangaka in quality.

Yeah, there was some real amateur shit on Deviantart and Furaffinity, but by and large furries were some of the most artistic people on the early internet. It's always been good, that's part of the appeal.
