The German embargo is real, but Israel already signed a deal with Ashkelon in March 2025 to produce transmissions, suspensions, and other core components locally, and renk (gearbox supplier for Merkava) is moving production to America as a workaround. The IDF also just approved a billion dollar plan in August to step up Merkava production, specifically to replace losses and deal with parts shortages. It’s not like every tank needs a “total engine rebuild” after two years either, they undergo routine maintenance and phased component swaps. Yeah, cannibalizing damaged tanks has limits, but between local contracts, aid from muttland, and domestic assembly lines, Israel clearly has a strategy to keep the fleet running instead of being “out of parts".
