Why are a vast majority of modern western artists and art fans retards or losers? They're mostly dumbasses, assholes, and dropouts and seem to be at the bottom of society irl. This is overwhelmingly the case once you dig into them. I'm aware it may be that way because your place in society isn't directly correlated with art and people often choose a less taxing job if they want to focus on their art. However, if that were the case then you'd find artists distributed somewhat randomly in all stations of life. But that isn't the case.
Doesn't art depend on thought and the mind heavily? Is it because most of western art related media is retarded and hence attract retards? Is this why the topics they get into are always rather immature?
On the other hand when I look through JP artists bios it's some med student doing it as a hobby or when looking through interviews of illustrators, a lot of them studied stuff like chemical engineering in undergrad and switched to the arts in post-grad. Is it because western society doesn't really respect artists at all and hence there's little place for them in society. In turn, a lot of astute people here shun art thinking there is no prospect and hence not worth pursuing?
It didn't used to be like this, Jim Lee from DC went to Princeton and was supposedly on track to study medicine. Where are the type of artists like this now in the west? Yes, this is a rare and extreme example, but it just seems like Japanese artists aren't always in the bottom rung of society as western ones and it's sad to see.
I'm really not trying to glaze Japan, rather, I don't have much reference for other non-western countries. My point is more why western artists are generally bottom feeders and not great people, even down to their personality.
