Romans 5:3-5
And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
Literally everyone in the Bible whom God loves suffers in some (usually big) way. Those who love God are able to bear/overcome their suffering.
Consider also the "spoiled" rich kid who gets everything they ask for. Do they seem happy? Not really, something is wrong with them, hence the use of a word like "spoiled".
The reward for goodness is not lowly, earthly things like money and power, but rather higher, spiritual things: love, clarity, piety, fortitude, just to give a few examples
