I posted that ironically but my first reading really was bamen. I mean if you see this word 画面 it's gamen so that seems logical to me. I have no idea when you're supposed to use on or kun readings because I just try to learn words like all of my immersion gods tell me. However I always fall off anki after a few months and then quit japanese for a year so while my passive vocabulary and listening grow from watching anime, my ability to read kanji is pretty much null. This has been going on for about 7 years now.
