Can't forget China was totally decimated to the point of annihilation in the Second Sino-Japanese War. Only reason Japan didn't genocide the entire Chinese population was because Western countries stepped in and won WW2. Otherwise China would've continued as Japan's ore mining slaves. Seriously, the Han to 19th-20th century Japan is the equivalent of niggers to 19th century America. Slave labor. China has strength in numbers thanks to Marxist ideology but has in recent history been propped up by the West due to the threat of Imperial Japan.

Japan has been neutered of course but old habits die hard. China would have a VERY difficult time fighting the Japanese alone, let alone Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Aussies, etc. funded by the West.
