Sonic didn't 'inspire' her to be a 'hero'. Sonic himself isn't a self-declared hero. Sonic is a fun-loving adventurer, like the wind, who happens upon heroics.
Surge becomes invested in heroism and the identity of a 'hero' because she's selfish and likes receiving attention. Sonic, in contrast, is indifferent to attention.

It's weird to romanticize Surge's brainwashing as something romantic when that's a product of abuse. This also goes against the text of the comic since when Surge thinks about Sonic, she's shown to be visibly angry and reflecting on her conditioning can leave her incapacitated with only Kit able to soothe her spirit.

Surge is at her emotional peak when Sonic and Starline are far from her mind and she's immersed in the moment.
