I feel like this is such a lame take. Not saying GF will nail it, but I at least appreciate them not going for the same basic option again.
They started doing openness in their games with Sword/Shield and every single one since has been large open flat expanses for the most part. The closest thing to something different is Kitakami being a mountain but even then, it's still open wilderness.
An open city is a new concept for Pokemon, even more so that they're going all in on it and it's the entire map. Of course, yes, they could fuck it up, but it's at least a fresh spin. We have had multiple open wilderness maps already, man.
