Yes, fuck you. That's the best character art Trigger ever did. Gridman and Dynazenon pretty much have Trigger's only anime styled character designs. The shading patterns are nice too, it's a good style. They should do more of that instead of the ugly cartoon garbage.

The buzzwords "bland" and "generic" have no direct equivalent in Japanese. When someone calls something "bland" or "generic" that says more about them than about the work itself. Being so called "bland" or "generic" doesn't make something objectively good or bad. Denigrating a Japanese work for being so called "bland" or "generic", especially when they purposefully choose to be similar and take inspiration from inside the anime industry, is a cancerous type of Anglo-American ethnocentrism. I actually like and appreciate the way Japan chooses to do things. Fuck anime haters, Japan should do their own thing their own way.
