“Thank you Lord Uther for all the help.” You said and stood up to bow to him. “Thank you for everything.”
“Please do remember, I have my own duties and tasks. I cannot just do things.” Uther said and continued. “I will have a loyal servant to deliver you breakfast and guide you safely out of here come next morning.”
“Thank you once more.” You bowed again. “Blessing of the Holy Light to you Lord Uther.”
“Holy Light rewards those who are loyal to it and who serve it well, I will have you in my prayers Lady Malevus.” Uther replied as he stood up and went for the door. “May the coming days be better for all of us.”
You kept your head down as Uther left the small room, leaving you alone with the burning candles. As much as Uther had seemed like an old man weighted down by all the worries of the world, being in his presence had been exhausting. It was as if the whole room had been full of his presence. Even with his own worries, he was the Lord Uther the Lightbringer.
Your legs gave away from underneath you and you collapsed on your knees beside the bed. This all was just so much. All of this, you weren’t used to any of this. Yet one thought kept you going, freeing your Alric. You would do all this and more for him.
So you started to pray to find some calmness in your mind.
…
The next morning came too soon. The servant Uther had told you about brought you breakfast and forced you out of the bed. It wasn’t much, just bread, tea and dried apples, but enough to fill your empty stomach.
It was better not to waste any time and as quickly as you ate the breakfast, you allowed the servant to guide you out of the Church. The curfew was over and soon you would be outside and back in the City.
