>just a poor person seeking validation for his old hardware
Possibly, but it's also possible that there is a quaint satisfaction in using old hardware.
In the case of the i5 2500k, it's still extremely cheap today, so there is a case for it being used by poors. But other older hardware is not cheap at all, thanks to "retro" enthusiasts with money to burn. And actually, if you want to overclock the i5 2500k, you'll need a decent Z77 motherboard, and those are not really cheap nowadays (as in, for the same price you can get a am4 or lga 1200 socket).
So more frequently older hardware is actually only affordable by those with money to burn who don't care about performance (which is the opposite of poor interests).
And in practice, the i5 2500k is perfectly fine CPU to use in 2025 for office tasks and light gaming. And to inverse what you are saying, maybe the reason why people would get mad at the i5 2500k and call it poor is that they spent money on performance they don't really use.
