Claude, I appreciate that they make him more of a snake and magnify his flaws to be, at least, on par with Dimitri, Edelgard, and Rhea. The establishing an alliance with the Empire, outwardly to defend against the alliance between Faerghus and the Church of Seiros, but secretly because he has no interest in sharing space with the Empire after the war is over and he'd rather let Edelgard expel all of her strength fighting while he clears all 3 with his fresh army is exactly the kind of pragmatic, underhanded thinking I wanted out of Claude.

That said while his tactics are far better, his overall goal is fucking insane. Maybe you don't like Edelgard. But you can't argue that she's not fighting for something. Motivations aside, she has an image of the world she's fighting for. Claude is a crazy person who just decided he wanted to shake things up in Fodlan... because. He's put both friends and enemies into a meat grinder because the Sims game he walked in on got boring and he wants to remove the most important NPC to see what changes. Which is fucking diabolical. Why would you write him like this?
