I did this same thing with 5 prometheas this year too (most just fell out of their cocoons and couldn’t climb back up in time) and only one out of the five pupated correctly. I experimented with different types of paper towel and the cheap brown stuff seems to be the only type that they pupate in correctly for some reason. Once they’ve pupated I cut the fake cocoon open and they’re able to make it out just fine. Only done this twice before, picrel was a columbia-gloverii that couldn’t spin silk but came out beautifully. I’d love to know if the issue is caused by external damage to the gland or something else, I don’t have the heart to hold them under a microscope to examine it when they’re already stressed and so pathetic looking
