In work I was thinking about what you said regarding the sopranos' themes about traditional values, and realised that's part of what makes phil leotardo so funny at least to me, because he really is the full-on traditional guy that embodies all the old ways, which is foil to tony. I was watching a lot of his clips lately and just had to laugh at the scene where (no spoilers just a vague outline) he loses all respect for someone because he cried at a wedding, his face instantly drops and it's like the most disgusting thing he's ever seen and the next shot is him ranting about how f*ckin weak he is to cry like a woman. He represents all the old ways, respect for the family, the code of silence, he would never flip no matter what, in fact that last point makes me wish the show revealed if Phil was ever incarcerated, and if so, for how many years he was in the can if any, because that could be interesting information to further this point that he takes the old ways seriously
