Thanks, the earliest playtesters got confused by the darkening screen, thinking often that it was a bug. Though I have to admit, I stole the idea of the time wheel from Aculto, another project from here.
For now it is a solid circle yeah, I am trying to figure out the right blend mode to work with the transparency to get softer edges as you said, and I plan each light source object to have their own light sprite to get different shapes.
I don't know much about retro, the higher-quality sprites you see are from an itch.io asset pack made by LimeZu. I've been using them to prototype since the early days, since it has quite a lot of things, and there are not that many pixel art modern interior/exterior assets to go around. I did contact an artist though and have some custom assets coming so it should all be coming together.
