Lefties were openly saying they wouldn't take the "Trump vaccine" and only changed their tune when Biden came in and tried to force it on everyone, so you'd need another Biden like figure if you wanted that. As for it being secretly ebola, that would be a very bad idea since ebola is highly contagious, along with killing quickly and showing symptoms shortly after infection. If you wanted to secretly infect a huge number of people and be selective about how to do it, ebola would be about the worst choice.
Something like Ozempic that they would take willingly over an extended period of time but slowly kills over the course of half a decade probably would be the best way. By the time the first wave started dying, the rest would have already injected themselves with too much of it to have any chance of survival.
A huge depopulation event would be bad for college football as it would eliminate a huge portion of both the potential players and the fan base that supports the teams economically. While many troublemakers and parasites would be eliminated in the process, there would be economic collapse, at least in the shortterm. Many universities would cease to operate. Perhaps what would be built on the rumble would be better but that's never a guarantee. Rome was abandoned for centuries before rising again into its modern form, which you'd probably agree is inferior to when it was a Republic.
