after not relaxing and before sprinting is
>not looking like a valuable target
>not looking like an easy target
>not being alone
>being in well lit places
>not being out late
>apologizing fast, profusely, and even when it's not your fault
>not getting ragebaited
>getting out of conversations with upset strangers
>leaving when people are generally upset
Congrats, you just won 95% of violent altercations you'd ever encounter in your life. Then sprinting solved 80% of the remaining ones.
Assuming the number of altercations left doesn't round down to 0, I'd prefer pepper spray/gel (doesn't reeeaaaaalllllyyy matter) because you don't really have to explain to anyone why there's a pepper sprayed person the same way you'd have to explain a corpse.
Then for my money it's BJJ because I assume if the non-lethal option didn't work it's because you're grappled in some capacity and that's the best way to get back up. But the amount of times that you're going to be railroaded into that position is so small that you'll probably find as much utility out of it as pole dancing for the same off change someone is chasing you and there's a pole you can juke them with. Maybe parkour would be more utility in self defense
