I suppose that all things considered that was the main purpose of this chapter: to finally make Okarun vulnerable again. Thinking about it, many complained about him becoming a Gary Stu (I don't completey agree regardless), but I suppose this was one "realistic" way to still make him suffer a lot and kick him to the ground (no ntr was ever gonna happen clearly) in order to amplificate and set up the emotional climax for the confession on his side as well when it will arrive.
To draw a dangerious and inflammatory parallel with another manga, in a way this arc might end up being similar to the Ice Kaguya arc: extremely divisive and making many anons infuriated at first due to the momentary romantic stalling, which however turned out good after by finally adressing and solving underlying problems that would have otherwise popped up later in the manga.
That said, I fucking hope this won't be the exact same scenario, because Ice Kaguya was the last good arc: everything after became shittier and shittier as Aka lost interest in his manga. If only it ended on that bench.
