This comes up each time there's a government shutdown but it never happens. No one wants the crime wave that would result from it.
As far as if food stamps should exist or not, I'm in favor of work requirements for most but only after the 100 million non-citizens are deported, the border secured, and severe penalties ENFORCED for hiring non-citizens. At that point there will be no excuse for not having a job unless you're severely disabled. Until then, I don't give a shit if some poors get a couple hundred a month for food out of the multi-trillion dollar federal budget.

Food banks are a good resource but they can't scale up to serve all the millions who are currently on food stamps. They'd run out of food as quickly as a southern supermarket when there's snow in the forecast.
