Romans were originally Nordic in origin. Just look at descriptions of Sulla (blonde and blue eyed). The aristocrats looked like Danes until the 2nd century or so.
The actual Mediterranean race are the same people the Greeks called Pelasgoi. They were the pre-Aryan inhabitants of southern Europe; short, brown haired, and slim.
