Yeah it's following the same structure of PrimeShadow showing up to spar with Sonic and steal his macguffins half way through the adventure. Now the manga has two paths to choose from: either have Shadow try to fight the main threat on his own and get his ass blown out by the main villain or put him in purgatory like Prime did.
