Really the Maxwell matchup is cute and people think he hardcounters Light, but it's the opposite. Light's specialty is bending rules to their extreme and finding loopholes. Maxwell can only win this if he kills Light. Which is out of character for him. If he instead decides to do something like making him illiterate (as that anon suggested), Light would quickly get around that rule, kill him and obtain Maxwell's notebook in the process (which he would probably destroy out of disinterest).

A more interesting matchup would be Baba. She wouldn't have issue with just writing Light out of existence.

Kinda unrelated but I recommend giving Liar Game a try if you enjoy the concept of death games and battles of wits. Trust me when I say it is the best in the genre of "smart games". Akiyama is the most brilliant character ever written, I don't think he was surprised even one single time thorough the 100+ chapters, and he faced people that would run circles around settings like Danganronpa or 999.
