Eitan handed the software to Ari Ben-Menashe, his protégé in Israel’s Military Intelligence Directorate (1977-1987). Ben-Menashe hired California tech whiz Michael Riconosciuto to embed a backdoor in PROMIS. This allowed Mossad to spy on anyone using the software. They tested it on Jordan’s intelligence service, and it worked like a charm, scooping up sensitive data without a trace.
