Gear gives you direct stat boosts.
Playing right now, I get 10 points of INT and FAI each, and 6 points of MIND, from my armor, so 26 free levels from equipping an armor set. And a 12% reduction in spell casting cost.
This means that while I'm at level 136, I'm actually closer to level 162, by stats. And that is before talismans and the like.
I go from a mediocre 24 MIND, 40 INT, and 40 FAI, to 30 MIND, 50 INT, and 50 FAI. Which is very strong for the Mountaintops and Haligtree, which is where I am in the game right now.
Really what this serves is to make split stat builds less of a pain in the early game.
In base Elden Ring, running a mixed INT/FAI build like I have would suck ass due to how the stat scaling is non-linear.
Convergence adds a bunch of classes with split stat builds, so this armor stat buff is basically necessary for the mod to be fun and playable. Otherwise I'd have to be at like level 200 for an INT/FAI build to be viable.
Beyond this the spells and the like in the mod are often overpowered and rule of cool is bigger than balancing.
That isn't a flaw, its just something to be aware of.
