In short: they don't.
Ever since the government has locked him up, hardly anyone ever mentions him. It's mostly just the old guard (from the Novorossiya days) that do.
His name is usually only brought up on the anniversary of him taking Slavyansk and when it does, a shitstorm tends to ensue as you get his fans (kickstarted the proper revolution, did well with the few troops he had, stood up for his values) clashing with haters (blamed a few other commanders arguably for nothing, withdrew from Slavyansk, constant doomposting and whining since). A random example is the comment section here: https://t.me/warhistoryalconafter/216065

A more specific example — an accomplished and outspoken officer says Strelkov's contributions should not be dismissed, but he crossed the line by constantly shittalking Putin (why?) except that instead of being given a sentence he should've just been given a unit (takes his mind off of things and also puts him to good use) and ordered not to post anything.

I really don't get the politics stint, he either lost it or felt the walls closing in and decided to go all in.
However the man's too big, the man's too strong. If Prigozhin couldn't do it, Strelkov had no chance.
Personally for all his pessimism (he was right about a few things such as calling for an urgent mobilization early into the SMO, but mostly just doomposts now) he does deserve some respect, for his attempts at taking part in the war again and again despite being told no.
