The main problems are:

They are not fun to work on and every non-VW part is hard to find and priced like it was made out of solid gold. Don't get me started on the wiring, good fucking luck if something goes weird there, which is not uncommon
An LS swapped one might be awesome and would resolve many of these issues, but then you're doing a heart transplant
Basically you're getting into something that is more expensive than a Corvette that would be faster, a huge pain in the ass to work on compared to a Corvette that's faster, and an absolute money sink compared to a Corvette that would be faster
