As a brief preamble for other shit, just a quick AAR.
We did decently, all things considered. There were unnecessary losses, some pretty painful, but for anything we'd really rather still have, it didn't turn out to be crippling. We took out almost three thousand enemies (to be more exact, based on unit damages, around 2,850) for around one thousand of our own men and one of our cannon (by my count 1,200, if we lost a unit of cavalry off mapI also forgot to account for the Twelfth's losses). Roughly three to one casualty ratios isn't bad at all for a defensive battle, and we effectively eliminated the majority of the Fortelli Regiment's infantry assault units, though a decent amount of their halberdiers remain as well as two unaccounted for greatswords which we'll address later.
Of the forces they brought to the battle, the Fortelli lost about a third of their army, in exchange for a quarter of ours. Five hundred of those losses are the Famiglia, representing about a quarter of those attendant. Also almost eliminated are the giants, though the archers may remain, or may not, depending on how willing the fragment remaining are willing to be convinced.
As for us, the most painful loss is undoubtedly the second saker, right at the start. Having a second big gun would have made a lot of difference, but there's no point in crying over spilt milk. Or, for a more appropriate analog, that bridge has already been broken. Our cavalry is actually very intact, we'll see what use we can make of them, though they're slower and less powerful than the Famiglia so whenever they're around our cavalry can't freely operate.
Now we come to the big issue coming up. Two fifths of the enemy army was not actually present here. For all our success today, we effectively fought the Fortelli's forces separately, and even then, not all of them.
To put it bluntly, if their entire army recomposes and hits us at once, and we don't channelize them very efficiently or get reinforcements tomorrow, we're dead. We could make the Fortelli victory a pyrrhic one by all means, but I'd personally prefer not to give these knife-eared merchant republic mutts any deal they'd see as near even.
