I've only ever heard of one shootout ever happening like in the 90s or something. Was between cops and some bank robbers.
The robbers were kitted out with body armor and automatic rifles outclassing the standard pistols and shotguns the policed carried and it took awhile before they managed to get delievered proper weapons to deal with the robbers
