I need help from anyone with experiencing micing a guitar amp.
I recently bought an e906. I've got a 50W Boss Katana. I put the mic right up against the speaker. The input seems extremely quiet. I had to turn up my interface's gain to at least 7-8 before it even began to register. I had to crank it up to 9 to get it to consistently register around -20db.
To my ears, the amp sounds loud. I play in an apartment, so I cant play at ridiculous volumes, but this recording is significantly louder than my practice volume.

It sounds thin, hissy, and still very quiet. Sounds nothing like the amp to my ears. Do I have a bum mic? Is this just the nature of dynamic mics? They only sound good at crazy volumes? Does all the magic happen in post? Or am I screwing up with my mic placement?
