I think the word is fine, it's descriptive of what it is. I don't think it's inherently a put down or negative (beyond my own preferences). I understand a lot of people take it that way because of historical usage though, but I can't think of a word that can be better used.

Maybe if we're talking like it magically falls into her through happenstance from the universe conspiring, and her hands are otherwise occupied that she can't take it out immediately, I could see that working.
