Russian Drone Attack Hits Port City of Izmail, Injuring One
A Russian drone attack on the southern Ukrainian port city of Izmail overnight on August 20 has damaged port and energy infrastructure and injured one civilian, according to local officials.
Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, confirmed that the attack with Shahed-type drones targeted infrastructure and industrial buildings. The strikes caused several fires, including a large blaze at a fuel and energy facility.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and the fires were quickly extinguished. According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS), 54 rescuers and 16 units of special equipment were involved in the response, supplemented by a fire train from the state railway company.
"Law enforcement officers are documenting another crime by the Russians against civilians," Kiper stated. One man was injured in the attack and has been hospitalized.
Prosecutors have launched a pre-trial investigation into war crimes following the incident. The attack is the latest in a series of Russian strikes targeting port and industrial infrastructure in the Odesa region.
