Ok but like why though? Is it something along the lines of "greed is inherent to the human condition". I just don't understand how world leaders will actively plunder their own homeland. Like, don't you want everyone's lives to be better? Don't you want the world to stop making fun of how shit your nation is? I feel like people are so quick to abandon EVERY moral standard if you wave money and power in front of them. Just can't wrap my head around how humans can be so anti-human. Do they not love?

Like 18% of that country is predicted to be underwater in the next 50 years due to global warming, which includes a lot of the best farmland. Environmental refugee crisis waiting to happen, just like most island nations. There's a reason Australia is granting "climate visas".
