try this
install the bleeding prevention upgrade the jacket you start with
upgrade the Makarov, put at the very least the extended magazine on it, preferably also go for the upgrade path that improves both rate of fire and accuracy. stick with the Makarov until you get an MP5, then convert it to 9x18
never, ever pick up shotgun ammo. it's heavy as shit and shotguns are completely useless in the great swamps
loot all of the food and vodka you come across, sell off of that shit to the bartender in the Clear Sky camp, he pays full price for that

if you follow my advice you'll have at least 20k and loads of upgraded gear by the time you get in Cordon. good luck, stalker.
