No no, far from it.
I've had several chinkhelds.
The first was the RS97 and had a MIPS CPU and ran OpenDingux, a MIPS linux distro. I had the most fun with it, although it was extremely underpowered and only ran up to SNES (and some effects like fog would tank the FPS). I even helped with the development of the OS port and porting several games to it, at the Dingooonity forum (sadly now dead). I even hardware modded the little guy to have a second SD card slot so I could easily swap the OS card and develop to it.
Then I had an RG350 (the first Anbernic device) that had a more powerful MIPS CPU and could run PSX. That was the last device of the MIPS adventure. I tried to offer galicianon this device but he refused.
Then I got an RG351MP that had a higher resolution screen (480p) and was an ARM device. I wasn't active in messing with the Linux distro it came with but had a lot of fun and could even run a bit of Dreamcast. I ended up selling it and got a Retroid Pocket 3+, which is my current one and that I've had since 2022, and runs Android. This one can play up to PS2 and Gamecube.
I recently bought an RG28xx which is a tiny handheld that runs linux and has the exact same power as my old RG351MP to basically play Gameboy and Sega GameGear games.
Pic related, the orange is the RG28xx, the black is the retroid, next to my childhood gameboy (that was modded with a new grey shell and a screen) and an FPGA based gameboy in clear black.
