I am pedantic and feel that, yes, the J in JRPG should in fact mean that the game is made in Japan.
I just don't like how Western indie games have started to label themselves JRPGs just because they are turn based.
And no that doesn't make Dark Souls a JRPG either, and JRPGs do not necessarily have to be turn based, see Tales and Xenoblade.
