Riften would have been my favorite city if it didn't exist solely to house the thieves guild, and why do they shove the thieves guild so far down your throat anyway? They got the one entrance locked and the guard tell you to go to the other gate so they can have you walk by Maul who tells you to fuck off, then Mjoll saying she 'had another run in with the thieves guild' then you walk past Sapphire who berates some other faggot about how much he screwed up a job by opening his mouth and then Brynjolf confronts you about how much gold you have and asks if you want to join. It's like Bethesda saw some people complaining about how hard it was to find the Oblivion thieves guild and then wildly overcorrected on it. Not to mention the main quest has you go to them for help finding Esbern. I would have been find with all those scenes about the thieves guild if the city was significantly better and each one was placed by a different entrance.
