It sounds like you got the right mindset already. I'm a piece of a shit though and I do nothing about it. I cut off all my family when I was about 15 years old. 26 now. My favorite cousin which I never saw is dead. My favorite uncle which I never saw is dead. My great-grandparents which I never saw are dead. I haven't done it personally because it's very hard but reach out to your family and just see them and have a normal healthy relationship. It's not about love. It's about loyalty. I have extensive knowledge how to be a good person, do the right thing. But I simply choose not too. Maybe you're the same way
