I'll tell you a little from my own life. I was a smart kid, I went to an academically exclusive private school. I was gifted. Them a spent 5 or so weeks straight playing Rome total war and watching you tube during a summer holiday. I had a bastard of a headache. Then I became retarded. My ability to learn, to memories and so on was fucked. I think this has happened to a huge number of people in my generation. That may go some way to answering your question.
