The reason America hates BEVs is because it is now a technology in which China holds the lead. This is why America fears it. It has nothing to do with anything else. It's simple realpolitik. It always is. This is why Trump is making all these anti-EV moves. Why he's pushing the petrol industry with record breaking subsidies. America has realized it lost the Electric arms race to China and it's too late to catch up with the current American capacities.
The Koreans, the Germans, the French, the Swedes, hell EVEN the Japanese are making huge investments in their EV platforms to challenge the Chinese. BMW (yes that renowned BMW) has invested billions and made its entire line-up of the coming decade on an EV platform. The ix3 50 is the company's biggest investment in decades. The war for battery driven vehicles is just gearing up. America though has realized it can't move past second gear (well Americans can't move gears at all) so now they have applied a very aggressive anti-EV policy.
