play up rivalry and debate between the Slann. Even the most extreme believers of 'lizardmen are robots' (which I've always thought was lame but let's not activate them) have to admit Slann are not like saurus, they do have personalities, individual likes and differences of opinion on the Great Plan.
Every Lizardman agrees that the Great Plan should be carried out, where they disagree is how they're going to do it and on specific issues and areas the plaques are silent on. For example if your Plaques are silent on what to do, do you take that as a sign it's up to you how to proceed? OR do you just not do anything because you might find a plaque that tells you what to do and you'd rather do nothing instead of doing it wrong.
Also Saurus should practice for war with autistic sports wargames, like a combination chess/mesoamerican basketball.
Also play up reasons for the Lizardmen to get involved with other parts of the world for even minor funny reasons. Let's say that during the period of the Old Ones/Slann actively making Lustria a biological warfare fortress for defending against Chaos in the process lots of more mundane animals like pigs died out during the ecological stress. An early generation Slann misses the taste of bacon fried up by his servants, upon finding out there's still plenty of swine in the Old World he sends skinks to bring back a breeding population to be kept safe in a temple city. If you want to keep the seriousness of the Slann you could downplay the humour and just say he wants to restore some of the damage the hasty defences of Lustria causes to the Old One's vision of nature.

this is a great idea with potential to be really funny too. Just hitting an elector count with the GREAT PLAN beam in the middle of the night making them wake up in cold sweats and they now have an autistic urge to do something for the Lizardmen and they're not even sure what they're doing.
