Cartoons used to look cute, then the 90s hit and whilst there were still cute cartoons, there was also a large admixture of ugliness with shit like rugrats. It's extremely hard to find cartoons made purposefully with "ugliness" that fits well narratively today. Even ugly cartoons back in the 60s - 80s still looks better because it was somehow more soulful with its comedy (pic related)
