The Trickster reveal is one of my favorite cutscenes in vidya. In such a cliche moment where the main character is betrayed, you'd expect him to throw out some cheesy line to show that he's still a badass hero and that it's not over yet. But Garrett isn't some badass hero, he's just a thief. He's visibly scared, he screams, and then he lies on the floor and literally shakes with fear for his life while vines grow around him.
Moreover, the words that the Trickster says to him resonated with me as the player as well:
>Did you think those ancient phrases were mere words, manfool?
Garrett probably thought so, and during my first playthrough I also thought that the pagan texts shown before some briefings were just flavor text and I didn't actually pay much attention to them. Peak writing.
