Peter Thiel discussed Jeffrey Epstein’s connections to influential figures, including technocrats, during his August 2024 appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (episode #2190). Thiel speculated that Epstein’s operation functioned like a “secret club” where elites knowingly allowed themselves to be compromised in order to advance, comparing it to becoming a “made man in the mafia” or the Skull and Bones society. He stated, “The vibe is not that you somehow got compromised. It was more, you were joining this secret club… Only if we have compromise on you do you get ahead.” Thiel suggested this model extended to powerful people in tech and politics, emphasizing that the focus on Epstein’s sex crimes distracts from broader questions about his protection by U.S. intelligence agencies (downplaying foreign involvement like Mossad as “very secondary”).
Regarding specific technocrats, Thiel claimed that LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman introduced him to Epstein in 2014, adding that he “didn’t ask enough questions” and viewed aspects of Epstein’s dealings as “fraudulent.” Thiel also advanced a conspiracy theory about Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, alleging that Epstein acted as a “marriage counselor” around 2010-2011, advising Gates to divorce Melinda Gates but noting it was complicated due to the lack of a prenup. Thiel theorized that Epstein then suggested creating the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to “commit the marital assets to this nonprofit” and “lock Melinda into not complaining about the marriage for a long, long time,” effectively protecting Gates’ wealth. He framed this as part of a pattern in “left-wing philanthropy” to control spouses, without providing evidence.
