They didn't have to be hyper autistic about the van der Waals force back then and how mass of the animal with the hairs or pads on it has to not exceed its potential gravitational energy past the the force of the surface area covered by the pads/hairs exerting that van der Waals force.
Even then, they could just say the spider-bite imparted onto Peter a bunch of special hairs that have some special variant of the van der Waals force that takes advantage or more molecules passing from one side to another or whatever.
The formula for the web fluid as well as these forces are just for some nerd to explain some version of and then get a no-prize. Marvel back then knew how much to dive into the technical autism and then just say the 616 has some tech we could never make and that's why something is feasible.

I forgot to say in this post but I took a look at Annual 4. That's where the various presses are also said to influence the types. I also found the handbook explanation. Yeah the web forms electrostatically or whatever and then can shape itself through the shooter cutting it, or being exposed to the air where it then changes. That's why it can be a long thread for web swinging or it expands into a web shape that looks like a net.
Mechanical just explains all this better than organic and explains why Peter can control it much more. Would Peter have to learn the chemicals inside his body and then visualize the type of web he wants if he had organic web shooters? Dunno. But I guess that could work. Mechanical is just cooler from a tech autism standpoint and every kid would want a high-end silly string toy.
