They completely lost their way and now design most Pokemon purely in the hopes of them becoming viral internet memes and generating quick publicity over all else. Conceptually lots of them are still solid and could've made for great designs (Mega Feraligatr turning its entire upper body into a giant set of jaws is a great concept on paper, for example) but they deliberately sabotage them or just put no effort into them now, because god forbid something simply be good and not permanently ruined to get the attention of the irony poisoned masses for three whole days.
